Sonicare vs Oral-B: 2023 head-to-head (UK) - Electric Teeth Sonicare vs Oral-B: 2023 head-to-head (UK) - Electric Teeth

We didn’t feel or see much of a difference while testing in terms of cleaning effectiveness between the 2nd and 3rd series brush heads. We would recommend that you choose the one that best fits your budget and personal taste. For sensitive teeth, we recommend the Gum Care brush heads, and for general cleaning, the Plaque Defense heads are the best. Unlike the smart brushes we tested, the ProtectiveClean 4300 is designed to clean your teeth, and that is about it. The only additional feature it has is that it offers two intensities. By pushing the power button while it is on, you can switch from high to low or low to high. It will remember which setting you finished brushing with and stay on that intensity. The exact way that this happens is not fully understood, but it is thought that very high frequencies cause liquids to move and create “hydrodynamic forces” which damage the plaque layer in hard to reach areas ( 1). This intense vibration agitates fluids that surround the teeth and can loosen and remove dental plaque in locations that are beyond the physical touch of the toothbrush. To have this effect the waves actually need to be working at a much higher speed, in the ultrasonic range, greater than 20,000 Hz. Look for the above symbol on replacement brush heads to ensure compatibility with the replacement reminder technology. In fact, in our lab test, the Sonicare 4300 gave us 99 brushing sessions before the battery died. At two sessions a day, that comes out to be almost 50 days of brushing without charging. Like we said, beyond our expectations! It includes an accurate pressure sensor that was the most sensitive of any brush we tested. We think this feature is important to protect your gums as you brush. Some extra life is achieved by Sonicare I believe via the quieter and possibly more efficient motor as well as the automatic power off feature, something Oral-B does not have. Which is the most innovative?

Philips says that the 4300 comes with a “premium” travel case. But we found this white toothbrush coffin to be anything but premium. The plastic feels cheap and thin, and we tried so many times to put the brush handle in the box in a way so that it would not roll around, but it is impossible. There is room for two brush heads, and these snap in tight. But the handle itself just kind of rests on a little plastic depression which does not keep it in place. When you pay this much for a brush, you have high expectations. Initially the DiamondClean Smart was pretty impressive. It came with 4 brush heads along with a tongue cleaning kit, charging cup, deluxe travel case, and a stylish amethyst-colored handle. Once you know what to look for, the system is pretty easy to understand. In general, there are 3 series of modern Sonicare brush heads. The first series which are called ProResults have no numbers, and the brush heads do not come with chips, so you will not get the benefit of brush syncing, but you may save some money as they are less expensive.Deciding which brand of electric toothbrush is right for you has likely been more confusing and complicated than you originally thought. We also have separate buying guides on Oral-B brush heads and Sonicare brush heads that explain the difference between the brushes. What propels Sonicare forward is BrushSync, which I explain in detail here, but essentially it is a 2 part system that alerts you when it is time to change your brush head and selects the most suitable cleaning mode, based on the brush head fitted to the handle.

I do hope that this article has explained why some may favour Oral-B for reasons like budget, whilst Sonicare might be the best choice because of the battery life. This is basically the precursor to the DailyClean series offering one mode and the most basic cleaning of any Sonicare brush. Philips Sonicare brush head guide Despite its dark exterior, which we were afraid would collect toothpaste scum, the handle washes off easily and still looks new after months of use. If you need more detail on any of the brushes, read on or leave a comment. Sonicare brush vs brush comparisons Having thoroughly tested both of the ranges, I recommend Oral-B electric toothbrushes, specifically the Oral-B Pro 3 3500, as the best value and overall top choice. The 5100 and 6100 also include the BrushSync feature which uses the chip detection to not only tell how long you have been using the brush head, but also automatically matches whichever brush head you use to the right mode. So if you switch from the Gum Care brush head to the Whitening brush head, the mode on the brush will automatically detect this and change. You can override the automatic syncing if you want to. This is a cool feature, but again, we aren’t sure if any of these modes are better than the daily clean mode. Oral-B’s longest lasting toothbrush brush lasts about 16 days. This is quite disappointing in comparison. They do also offer an automatic power off feature which in my opinion is the best feature and most applicable of all additions over the basic cleaning mode. Oral-B’s iO range is quieter than most other Oral-B models, but it is still on average about 10 decibels louder than Sonicare.

Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean Model 4300 Electric

The brush head on a sonic brush is a lot like a manual toothbrush in its size and shape. It covers several teeth at the same time, and is oval shaped.Overall, the Philips Sonicare line of brush heads is very strong and they offer a wide variety to choose from. They are top-of-the-line in terms of performance and quality. Sonicare Series 3 (left) vs Series 2 (right) brush heads
