About this deal

One of the earliest recorded instances of poopy-head actually uses the phrase as a pet name: On Valentine’s Day 1983 a romantic declared his love for his sweetheart in The Springfield Union by writing “I LOVE YOU Poopy Head.” Three years later, self-help author Wayne Dyer wrote a column suggesting that parents learn to play with their children by calling them “a poopy-head once in a while in jest.” The hat also boasts an elasticated edge that means it’s an ideal fit for all the big kids who want to play! It can also be tied under the chin for ultimate hold to make sure those pesky poos don’t fall off and cost you valuable points. At your turn you can play an ascending sequence of consecutive cards in a single suit, provided that the first card beats the previous play. All the subsequent plays must also be legal, so the sequence would be terminated by an eight, since after an eight the next card is required to be lower or equal. If the sequence reached 10 the pile would be thrown away and the same player would start a new pile with any play.

As players run out of cards they continue playing until only one player has cards left. This player is known as the "smeg head". Twisted Shithead is an elaborate variation in which nearly all the cards have special effects. It was created by Galbraith/Lewis/Constance/Mabely (1993); the description is by Paul JaYmes (1997). By the 1990s poopy head was described in the Illinois newspaper The Pantagraph as a popular childish insult on the same level as “booger-face, butt-head and snot-brains.” A joker can be played on anything and next player misses a turn. If there are just two players in the game this means that the player of the joker immediately plays another card of any value. In games of more than two players the joker is treated in one of three ways: as glass (like a 7) or with a value of 7, or with a value of 2. To avoid arguments decide before starting which of these variations is being played. Before play begins, the same player may exchange cards in their hand for their face-up cards. Players may not look at their face-down cards until they are played. THE PLAYA seven can be played on anything and is "glass", meaning that the next player must play a card which could legally have been played on the card before the seven. For example, if a 7 is played on an Ace, the next player must beat an Ace. If a 7 is played to the empty table (nothing under it) it has the value of 7. David Driscoll reports having played Ten-Two Slide in Illinois with hands of four cards, but just the normal three cards face down and three face up for each player. The game is occasionally played to find a winner rather than a loser. In that case, the winner is the first player who manages to get rid of all their hand and table cards.

The first person to play a 10 or complete a four of a kind, clearing away the pile, is known as the "flush" person, and has to clear away the pile each time this happens in future.Norquist is not the first to speak of “calling someone a poopy head” as shorthand for political mudslinging and name-calling. A 1994 article in the Dayton Daily News also compared running negative campaign ads to calling your opponent “a big fat poopy-head.” The term first appeared in the New York Times in a similar context. In an article about how Wikipedia was protecting itself by imposing waiting periods before you could make changes, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales warned New York Times readers, “If someone really wants to write, ‘George Bush is a poopy head,’ you’ve got to wait four days.” You can put a ten on top of everything and it burns the pile, and you get to put out the first card in the new pile. The first known instance of poop head, according to the OED, was Rebel Without a Cause (1955): In both the play and the movie Buzz Gunderson calls two adults a “couple old poop-heads.” Even then the term poop was relatively new, having evolved at the end of the 19th century from an onomatopoeia for the sound of pooping.

If a player is able to complete a full set of four cards (four cards of equal rank are played or three cards of equal rank are played on top if the fourth card of equal rank) the discard is cleared from play. That player has another and starts the discard with a card or set of cards of higher rank. ENDGAME Face-up Cards Sean Daly, describes a version of the game Karma, from Radford, Virginia, USA. The differences are as follows: Before poopy-head entered the lexicon, we called stupid people manure-head and shit-head. In the 1932 Broadway play The Great Magoo, one character insisted, “By God, no manure-head’s gonna stop me,”. You can put a five on top of everything, it is the reverse card, meaning that in the next turn the opponent must put a card equal or lower than five.A ten may be played on any turn, whatever the top card of the discard pile is (or even if the pile is empty). When a ten is played, the discard pile is removed from play and the same player who played the ten takes another turn, playing any card or set of equal cards to start a new discard pile. The first player is the player who receives a three face-up. If there is not a 3 face-up, the first player to declare they have a three in hand is the first player. If there are no 3s dealt, repeat with four (and so on).
