About this deal

We are asking for an Assessment of Need form to be completed by parents and school rather than a GP as they will know that young person’s needs the most on a daily basis. We began our new approach with phase one (April to September 2021). A phased approach ensures we can keep families safe and well supported while we are introducing changes. Phase two begins in September. EHCPs are not based on any diagnosis, but focus on the presenting needs of a child or young person. Having a diagnosis of any condition does not mean that any child or young person automatically receives an EHCP.

This means that we are moving away from a standardised offer across the county to a far more personalised service in line with the particular needs of each school, its parents and children. Once a referral is received it is triaged by a multi-disciplinary team of nurses and child health advisors, and then sent on to the correct service. TheOne Stop clinical team will triage the referral and make this decision – so the child gets to the right service, first time. The service looks and feels different for families, children and young people receiving the service and for referral agencies, not only because of the additional investment in existing and new services, but also because: We work closely with the Assessment Consultation Therapy (ACT) team and the Solace Centre where appropriate The carers group is an 8-10 week programme that aims to help female carers of sexually abused children and young people. We know that life experiences can look like neurodivergent needs including sleep, diet, life trauma, time away from peers during covid etc. We therefore ask that attempts are made to support these areas of need in the first instance in liaison with your school nurse, SENCO or primary mental health worker linked with the school. Although not always the case, some children may also have signs of other problems or conditions alongside ADHD, such as: The criteria for making a diagnosis of ADHD in children, teenagers and adults are outlined below. Diagnosis in children and teenagers

Our team of national level experts provide a wide range of evidence-based therapies and counselling services to adults, children, adolescents, businesses and groups. We work regularly with charities and our psychologists remain actively involved in teaching and specialist research projects. For example, somepeople withthe conditionmay have problems with inattentiveness, but not with hyperactivity or impulsiveness.

symptoms that make their lives considerably more difficult on a social, academic or occupational level If your child's challenges do notimprove, and both you and the school believe it's negatively affecting their day-to-day life, you should work with the school to complete the necessary paperwork for an assessment ofneed. We offer support and advice to key people (teacher and or parent/ carer) around the child or young person to enable them to identify any concerns, understand what has happened for that child or young person and support any developing mental health needs.

We often work with social workers and schools to help them think about how best to meet the needs of sexually abused children, young people and their families. We offer consultation over the phone or we can come to see you to talk in more detail. Should the young person require a diagnostic assessment the Neurodevelopmental Service will be in touch to confirm and outline the next steps for your child. All diagnostic assessments compose of a need to understand the young person’s developmental history as well as a direct assessment with the young person. We recognise children and young people do not want to always be seen in a clinic or a school setting, so advice and help will become more visible and accessible in the local community, closer to home. I spoke to a lady called Sarah who was fantastic. She related to what I was saying about my son and signposted me to get lots of support. She could not have been more patient and helpful. We support children, young people, parents, carers and other professionals such as teachers to identify and prevent mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. if there have been any recent significant events in your or your child's life, such asa death or divorce in the family autistic spectrum condition (ASC)–this affects social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour TheOne Stop team will also work with the referrers, or, where relevant, the parent/carer, to obtain further information to assist. How do I refer viaOne Stop?

In recent years, the demand for ADHD and Autism assessments has dramatically increased across the country. Therefore, the number of requests Mindworks Surrey receives every day has significantly increased. We are working hard to increase capacity across Mindworks to process these requests. Unless directed otherwise by Access & Advice, please continue to complete and send in your completed paperwork as soon as possible.

New approach

The neurodevelopmental helpline number is: 0300 222 5755. The line is open from 5 to 11pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year. A parent who had used the helpline, said: “I found the neurodevelopmental helpline absolutely fantastic. I’d had the day from hell and constant calls from the school about my child’s behaviour. At this point he didn’t even have an ADHD diagnosis and I didn’t really know what was going on, so I decided to ring the support line for some advice. STARS works closely with the Solace Centre as, for many families, this is the first place they visit when a child tells them about sexual abuse.
